If you’re looking for an elegant wine experience, Avennia is the perfect location. You can find it right off Woodinville-Snohomish Road, across from the Hampton Inn.

Avennia is tucked away in the corner, so it felt secluded. When I opened the door, I was transported to a stylish tasting room. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought I was in downtown Bellevue or Seattle because it felt very metropolitan.

The decor is minimalist but bold. I adore how they have displayed all their wines on the wall, giving every bottle a bit of spotlight. It is very refined, which also reflects in the wine itself.

The hosts at Avennia are incredibly knowledgeable about their wines. My host studiously detailed each decanter as he placed them on my mat. He would recite some of the history and flavors I would expect from each wine. Every glass is placed on top of a QR code revealing more tasting notes. These act more like reminders as you go along your tasting. This is especially helpful if you are trying to compare specific notes.

The wine was incredible… I began with the 2020 La Perle which is a White Rhône-Style Blend. I noticed flavors of white peach, vanilla, river stone, and lemon which was stupendous. This is the bottle I ended up taking home!

Next, I had the 2020 Justine Southern Rhône Blend. The notes were dark and luxuriant such as raspberry, pomegranate, and orange zest. This was a strong start for the rest of the reds to come.

After, I tried the 2020 Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah. This wine would be the perfect addition to a wintry and heavy entree like a pot roast. It was deep and savory featuring flavors like peppercorn and dark fruits.

My fourth wine was the 2020 Gravura Bordeaux Blend. It was also my second favorite and I almost took it home. This blend is still on the savory side, but a touch lighter than the 2020 Arnaut. I was torn between both the Arnaut and Gravura! I enjoyed Gravura more because of the dark cherry and black currant notes coming through. Of all the reds featured at Avennia, this one was my favorite!

I finished the tasting with the 2020 Sestina Cabernet Sauvignon. I tasted the depth and richness of this wine. It definitely feels very Old World and is immensely different from most cabernets I’ve had in Woodinville. There was a mineral undertone along with tobacco, currant, and vanilla flavors.
If you are looking for elegance, come visit Avennia.
