At long last, Category 5 Cellars has opened their tasting room! We’ve been cheering them along from afar over the last year or so, keeping in touch via social media and dreaming of tasting their Albariño again.

We were thrilled to be invited to their recent Grand Opening Weekend in the warehouse district here in Woodinville.

I was astonished (and delighted) to see that this winery makes a 100% Petit Verdot. Not a lot of wineries around here in Woodinville offer a Petit Verdot, and I love to collect them. This one is from the Dionysus Vineyard, one of Washington’s oldest vineyards.

Firewall Red” is their go-to Tuesday night red wine. A 2017, it’s ready to drink and stock-up worthy.

The winemakers, Jason and Stan, introduced me to their debut wine, the 2017 Albariño, over a year ago. I’m a fan! I think I need a case of this to tide me over the next several months.

Their “Hacker Rosé” is a blend of .. wait for it.. Albariño and Petit Verdot! Unusual! Love it.

Why is the Rosé named Hacker? You’ll notice lots of tech terminology in the winery’s branding. I’ll let you learn the backstory when you visit the winery for yourself! I won’t spoil the story for you.

I want to be sure not to forget to let you know they also make a Malbec! The lineup also includes a Cabernet Franc and a Cabernet Sauvignon I’d be proud to serve if I’m ever able to invite friends over to an indoor dinner party safely again.

Here’s winemaker Jason chatting with me during the grand opening, if you’d like to watch over on YouTube:

You can visit Category 5 Cellars’ outdoor patio in the warehouse district at 19501 144th Ave NE Suite D-900, Woodinville, WA 98072.
