Celebrating Malbec World Day with Woodinville Malbec Wines

Today is Malbec World Day (the tenth anniversary of this wine celebration, as a matter of fact). We pay homage to the Argentinian Malbec producers, but also celebrate malbec made all over the world. #SipGlocal!

(Note to social media professionals: It’s not World Malbec Day! Use the #malbecworldday hashtag rather than #worldmalbecday, though it can’t hurt to use both!).

Take a look at a few of the delicious Washington-grown Malbec wines you can buy from Woodinville tasting rooms:

Callan Cellars (run by a woman winemaker, by the way!) made their 2017 Malbec from grapes grown in the prestigious Boushey Vineyards.

Maryhill Winery gets the grapes for their 2015 Proprietor’s Reserve Malbec from the Tudor Hills Vineyard in the Columbia Valley.

“Mr. Popular” is the name of Alexandria Nicole Cellars‘ Malbec. The grapes are from Destiny Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA.

You’ll notice a little different name on Savage Grace’s Malbec. They call it the French word, “Côt.” (Learn about the differences between Argentinian Malbec and French style Malbec at WineFolly). The grapes for this were grown in the Dineen Vineyards near Zillah.

We can’t travel right now to other cities, states or countries to try their Malbec, but luckily there are many wonderful Malbecs made right here in Washington State.

We’ll stay home, obeying the coronavirus stay-at-home orders and quarantine, and have a little staycation right in the backyard. So glad it’s been fairly warm, and quite sunny, this week so we can enjoy our chaise lounge, watch our elderly dogs romping as much as they’re able to in the grass, and light the occasional fire pit bonfire.

I haven’t decided which of these four Malbec wines to open tonight, but I’m excited my beer-drinking boyfriend has agreed to try a small glass with our dinner. (Probably pasta we’ll throw together quickly as he’s been doing yard work all day and I’ve been busy on the computer!)

Did you open a Malbec today? Which winery was it from? How did you like it? Let us know in the comments below!
