Jen and I had heard so much exciting buzz about the opening of the new Ryan Patrick tasting room here in Woodinville. We were looking forward to exploring it and tasting their wines! Finally our schedules synced up and we were able to go together.
Our tasting room associate for the day was Hunter, who was so good natured about letting us photograph him and our tasting experience. Thank you Hunter!
Hunter has an enology degree from Walla Walla Community College.
His passion for the wine industry definitely comes through, and I have no doubt you’ll enjoy learning about wine from him if you stop by.
My friend Rebecca accompanied us, enjoying a brief respite from her life as a busy teacher and mom of two clever and active children.
The tasting lineup on the day we visited included Rock Island Chardonnay, a Reserve Chardonnay, their Rosé, Rock Island Red, Reserve Syrah and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Rebecca chose to start off her tasting with the 2016 Reserve Chardonnay
For comparison, I tasted the 2015 Rock Island Chardonnay. It’s aged in 18% new French Oak. Neither one of us are particular fans of Chardonnay, so we were surprised how much we enjoyed both of these. (I might have snuck a taste from Rebecca’s glass when she wasn’t looking!)
Next, Rebecca tried the 2015 Rock Island Red, which Hunter recommends leaving open for a bit before serving or drinking.
I opted to try the 2017 Rosé next. You can guess, if you have been reading our blog for any period of time, that I immediately decided to take home a bottle of this for sure.
Rebecca and I were both curious to taste the 2015 Reserve Syrah. There were limited cases made of this particular wine, so I made sure to buy a bottle to take home for my cellar.
My next pour was the 2015 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which Hunter pointed out is especially good with well-paired food. It’s sourced from Elephant Mountain Vineyards.
The Ryan Patrick tasting room shares the space with Milbrandt Vineyards, and the two tasting rooms are connected through a large doorway. The tasting room is dog friendly, and each time we’ve gone there we’ve met precious, pettable little doggies who were so enjoying their visit, stretching out on the rug and waiting for their adoring fans.
The tasting room offers several tables for small groups of wine tasters. You’ll love how light-filled, airy and spacious this tasting room is!
We are eager to come back and visit on hot summer afternoon, to relax and taste wine on their outdoor patio.
The tasting menu may have changed since our visit, so we encourage you to go visit for yourself and see what delicious wines they might be pouring for you this month! They also have a tasting room in Leavenworth.
