Breakfast With a Vegan at The Commons Cafe

Whenever I have out of town guests staying with me here in my Woodinville home, I take them to The Commons for a meal. Everyone is always enamored with the decor, enjoys the food and good service, and says they wish they had a restaurant this good near their own homes too!

So when my sister Mariel came to visit back in April, I planned to take her to breakfast at The Commons before we ventured out on wine tasting adventures.

I was a bit nervous though – I am a lifelong vegetarian, and there are several suitable dishes for me to choose from on The Commons’ breakfast menu. The Commons is really accomodating to dietary preferences, I knew from past experience. But what do you serve someone who doesn’t eat eggs, milk or butter?

All the beautiful pastries are off the table, and you can’t even put cream in your coffee of course.

My sister instantly spotted the avocado toast (she IS a millennial, after all) and was excited to try it. The waitress just suggested she skip the grana padano (cheese) and omit the fried egg.

While we waited for our food to arrive, Mariel admired the decor and chalkboards.

We’d arrived a bit early to beat the crowd – plus we wanted to get an early start on our Woodinville tasting room explorations.

Here’s her avocado toast, covered in lemony arugula and what I suspect is a larger than normal helping of tomatoes to round out the portion since there wasn’t an egg. She was perfectly happy with her meal, I want to add!

I splurged on French toast, which of course a vegan couldn’t order because of being dipped in egg and accompanied by a bit of whipped cream. So delicious!

Bring your houseguests and visitors to The Commons Cafe for a memorable breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner!
