Take a sneak peek at some of the intriguing wine-related books coming out this fall! We’re adding several to our reading lists and home libraries for sure.

The Booklovers’ Guide to Wine intrigues me with its history of the connections between wine and literary figures such as Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. I love the idea of literary-themed wine and food pairings! This book arrives on shelves (or Kindles) on September 19.

Wine Froth: A Heady Collection of Wine Quips, Quotes, Tips and Trivia will be out on November 1st. I’m looking forward to reading the tips and trivia, and perhaps I’ll get to enjoy a bit of celebrity wine-themed namedropping!

Red Wine: The Comprehensive Guide to the 50 Essential Varieties & Styles definitely needs to hit my reference shelf when it comes out on October 17. It will sure help us learn more about wine as we taste and write for Woodinville Wine Blog. The book introduces readers to “little-known gems” including Amarone, Baco Noir, Xinomavro, and Zweigelt. (Never heard of any of those! I have some reading to do!)

Wine Lover’s Kitchen will be published in early October. I’m not sure if I will add this to my cookbook library or not. I definitely need to learn more about cooking with wine. I often have a few opened bottles laying around after parties with just not quite enough to pour into a glass, but I don’t want to waste it. Since I’m a lifelong vegetarian, I’d likely have to alter many of these recipes to omit meat. Still, if the photos inside are lovely, the Wine Lover’s Kitchen cookbook may yet win a place on my shelf.

Note that each of the 70 recipes includes a wine pairing suggestion for the completed dish.

Around the World in 80 Wines is inspired by Jules Verne’s classic tale. Wine stories are set in London, Syria, Georgia, Lebanon, Algeria, Spain, Portugal, and even Kenya. The book comes out on the first of November.

The Artisanal Kitchen: Holiday Cocktails: The Best Nogs, Punches, Sparklers, and Mixed Drinks for Every Festive Occasion might make a fabulous gift. Sure, it’s not a wine book. But with as many parties as I throw, I think I need to add this book to my arsenal. By master mixologist Nick Mautone, it comes out in mid October.

I’ve Bought It, So I’ll Drink It: The Joys (or Not) of Drinking Wine is educational and humorous at the same time. It’s by the authors of the Sediment wine blog. I think I’m too shy to take the book’s advice on how to befriend a wine merchant, but I’m looking forward to some of the other tips, wine history and funny wine stories. You can buy it starting November 1st.

Adventures with Old Vines: A Beginner’s Guide to Being a Wine Connoisseur also arrives on the first of November. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a novice wine taster and thus might really benefit from this book! I drink wine so quickly, or serve it so frequently at my parties, that I doubt I’ll benefit from this book’s advice on storing wine. But I’ll happily read about how to read a wine list, and I’m eager to read about wine fraud, wine terroir and how wine is made.

Drink Progressively: A Bold New Way to Pair Wine and Food will be available on November 1st. (That must be THE most auspicious day to publish wine books!) I’m definitely looking forward to learning more about which wines to serve with which foods at my parties.

Ladies Who Drink: A Stylishly Spirited Guide to Mixed Drinks and Small Bites will arrive in late September. I’m tempted to pick up three or four copies to gift to girl friends this holiday season! Especially a couple of them who throw parties and entertain often like I do.

The book is organized around occasions, such as Game Day, Book Club, and Barbecue parties. Another book that isn’t wine-centric but still may help me plan even better parties.

Hope you enjoyed this little preview of upcoming wine and cocktail books this autumn!
