Our Lunch Break Meetup at Cougar Crest Tasting Room

The sun was out, temperatures were rising, and miraculously my good friend Zoe and I had openings in our schedules at the same time! We decided a wine tasting was the perfect way to catch up. Neither of us had been to Cougar Crest Winery before, so that was our destination this afternoon.

Here is the Cougar Crest tasting room manager, Sean, talking to  Zoe about their 2012 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. We could taste the notes of blackberry, and picked up the scent and flavor of mocha. Delicious!

Here is a generous pour of the 2012 Dedication Ten, Red Blend. This was our favorite wine of the tasting and had notes of blackberries, plum and red currants. A perfect table wine.

Sean shared a heart-warming story with us about the naming of this blend, so be sure to ask about it when you visit!

This is the view from the fire pit, where you can sit and sip a glass of wine while chatting with friends by the fireside.  The porch wraps all the way around the tasting room, with plenty of seating and sun umbrellas for shade.

Imagine relaxing here on a Friday evening with a glass of wine and live music in the background! I like the idea of grabbing a bite to eat at Purple Cafe or The Commons across the street and then walking over to Cougar Crest.  There are ample parking spaces and easy access to other tasting rooms a few blocks away, too.

I purchased two bottles to take home with me… a Dedication Ten and a bottle of 2015 Grenache Rose.  I was very close to taking home the Cabernet Sauvignon too, but I stuck to my goal of trying new things.

Tasting room Manager Sean is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the winery and made our experience friendly and fun! He even posed for a photo, which I really appreciated. He gave us a bonus lesson on port wines, with a pour and some chocolate.

I think this deck is perfect for people watching!  It’s set back from the road just enough for some privacy, but you still feel a part of what is happening around town.
